As and when I ran out of new stuff, I try to post some old stuff, just to keep the blog alive… well, sort of.
The “Magitek Armor” was drawn around 3-4 years ago? Base on 1 of my favorite RPG of all time – Final Fantasy 6 (the other being earthbound), I’ve design and painted what I visualize the armor would look like in my world, based on the in-game pixel art, and the concept art from Yoshitaka Amano.

Higher resolution inside
I obviously could not remember the finest detail of my design, but the general direction I was going for back then, was to create a highly beast-like mechanic as I visualize from Amano’s. The magitek was meant to be pilot by the imperial soldiers, and it runs on magicite.
Below is a higher resolution with color tweak, and some other FF VI related stuff.
I actually did a whole chunk of sketches base on the FFVI characters back then, so maybe I will add it in when I finally scan them.

Uwaaaaa, FF VI, how nostalgic XD~
I think I played only the first few minutes of the PS remake. Then I kind of forgot about it, and never had the chance to play it again…
This reminds me to hunt down that FF VI Piano collection which I had lost. Hahaha~
The Magitek Armor is awesome XD~ How long ago was this made? And how long did you take to do it?

That looks great!
And you’re right. I always wanted FFVI to be my first RPG but all the hype on VII I had to play it. But in retrospect, it’s not as fun of a game as VI is..

Well, I was only 10 myself when FFVI was release on the SNES, so I wouldn’t blame you. The artwork took me a whole month since it was really my 2nd CG painting. I had no idea what I was doing so I just went ahead and painted every last piece of equipment. That, and of course I was having too much fun with Kingdom Hearts and Dragonquest 8 at the time.
And – hi Bonnie. Glad you like it. It’s always interesting to get feedback from people who knows about the magitek. Anyway, yea, FFVII was the start of the whole CGI thing, which I guess was mind-blowing to many. Sadly, the highly detail CG took away the room for imagination. From then on, the series just keep going down the hill. They need to stop making emo kids as lead and start bring in more lovable characters for godsake.

Wow… It was only your 2nd CG painting. That makes it even awesome-r than I had originally thought. I think a whole month for a piece like this is super, especially since it’s only your 2nd piece.
Maybe you can post your first CG painting piece sometime, if you still have it? Hahaha~

Hahaha, true true. That’s the reason I’ve never finished VII and VIII. And they keep making side games for VII too. I wish they’d concentrate on making new and better titles instead. Think of all the possibilities! Hahaha~

Well, if you can stand the graphics, try Earthbound on the SNES emulator then. It’s a awesome game with such intelligence at its time. I’d say we would even have any of those pokemon games if there wasn’t Earthbound.
As for my CG, well, of course I did painted a little more before this, but it’s always like spending a day on a hand, then another day on a face and that’s it. Painting need a lot of patience, which isn’t exactly my forte. I envy you guys when I see how you manage to finish your picture. As for my earlier CG, they’re all pretty bad, so I don’t intend to post… unless another day when I finally run out of material to post again, I guess, lol

I’ll keep the title in mind. Thanks for the recommendation~
Actually, the fact that you take a month to finish this shows just how patient you are. Hahaha. And our pictures were finished because we have to finish it, so the pressure kind of boosts our speed. Although the outcome turned out not as polished as it could have been. Hahaha~

That is an excellent take on the armor! This version looks sleeker, and definitely more deadly, then the original version.
It’s great to see good art from arguably the best Final Fantasy game ever :D
