A good news for all, or at least for myself, I will soon be teaching in NAFA, Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts.
Officially from 22 July on, I will be teaching flash animation classes. Truth be said, I’m looking forward to it. Full-time freelancing can be pretty lonely sometimes. Having a class of people doing nothing, but hearing me talk is the best cure for loneliness.
Anyway, whenever I speak of NAFA, I can’t help but bring up my project, back when I was a student. The Hard Way is an animation project. However, due to the time frame given, I adopted a stylise approach, rather then the classic frame by frame approach.
The project, though was very well received by the public, was often mock by friends to be an animated storyboard. A few years later, 2 great man, Hideo Kojima and Ashley woods came together and did MGS, digital novel. I can’t help, but it certainly left a grin on my face ; )
Mission Nemesis is a 3-in-1 flash game developed to educate the students on the side effects of drugs dosage.
The game is then produced in CD-ROM form and distributed among local schools. The target audience is mainly teenagers, who, at their age might seems cool things as uncool, and uncool stuff as the things to look up to. Given the case, it is necessary to implement the educational message behind subtlely.
The overall reaction was much better then expected, and it seems quite a few government agency actually took note of it. Games for educational purpose is definitely something I would love to explore.
Moonstar is a Japanese shoes brand, famous for their childrens shoes.
My work for this job is mainly to mimic the artstyle of the Japanese counter-part. No doubt it makes my part alot simpler, but one should not take this as a chance for quick buck. It’s definitely enjoyable to sit down and study somebody elses artwork and their approach, what’s more- you’re being paid to do it.
I pretty much likes the end product, given the overall cuteness, yet not entirely the girl hello kitty. My only complain though, is the lenthy tagline, which then again was out of my control.
RIA 89.7fm is a local malay radio station, mainly targeting the teenage audience. It was originally intended to be a printed advertisement on local magazines, but I’m glad the client likes it enough to make it into a poster.
Going into the design aspect, the tagline given was, “Feel the rush, listen to ria 89.7fm”. So given the targeted audience and the tagline, I went for something energetic, something crowded, something… rush.
The 1st version is the poster/magazine advertisement, and the 2nd is a wallpaper I edited from the original painting.
Mascot design done for Singapore WDA(Workforce Development Agency).
The objective of the project was to re-create the mascot, a chameleon in suit and tie, to look… better.
I proposed a change, creating 2 mascot as metaphor of the 2 human icon seen on WDA logo. This enables better options in story-telling, something required in the future projects.
I suggested 3 different sets, a mentor and his student, followed by a pair of young twins and finally, a duo group, one in his formal shirt and tie, while the other is a young teen in all the hip-hop fashion.
Lastly, take a look at the artwork I did using the new mascot.
Well, it’s not because I got bored of blogging, nor is it because I was lazy. Nothing like that… well, maybe a little time spent on Metal Gear, but even that should not have stop me.
My computor was down, beyond repair,
the Singapore army needed me for a week
and finally I went for an operation on my toe, now officially the man with 9.5 toe nails.
Fortunately, that time has past. Now I’m back. Hopefully those that found interest here had not move on.
